Solid oak furniture made to measure has a problem that every manufacturer knows: customers find it hard to imagine the result, and every enquiry starts with a long back-and-forth about dimensions, drawers and finishes. For massivholz-unikate.de, a German manufacturer of solid oak furniture, we built a 3D configurator that answers those questions before the first email is written.
What customers can configure
The configurator covers the decisions a customer would otherwise discuss with the manufacturer on the phone — and checks each one against what can actually be built:
Real 3D in the browser
The 3D view is not a set of pre-rendered pictures. The model is built from the configuration in real time, so every combination of dimensions and options can be seen — including the ones nobody photographed.
- Rotate and zoom with mouse or finger — the model is rendered live in the browser.
- Standard views front, back, left, right and top at one click.
- Open drawers and doors by clicking on them — to see the inside, not just the front.
- Walls, dimensions and a person can be shown for scale, so the size in the bathroom is clear.
That matters most for unusual sizes. A 137 cm wide unit with four drawers looks exactly like a 137 cm wide unit with four drawers — not like the nearest catalogue picture.
Built for production, not only for the customer
A configurator for made-to-measure furniture only pays off if the result can go straight into production. The configuration therefore contains what production needs: exact dimensions, the drawer layout, the chosen fittings and finishes and the drilling positions — no re-measuring by phone, no missing details.
For customers that means a clear picture and a reliable price at any hour. For production it means enquiries that are complete, buildable and already priced.
The same core as our industrial selectors
Furniture and pumps look like different worlds. Underneath, the problem is the same: many options, rules between them, prices that depend on every choice, and a result that has to be built without errors. The 3D configurator runs on the same principles as our selectors for pumps and hydraulic products:
- Options, limits and prices are held as data — the manufacturer can change them without a developer (why that matters).
- Geometry and price calculation are code we write ourselves — fast and tested.
- Hosting, monitoring and updates are included (how we guarantee them).
